Former Tottenham man turned pundit, Paul Stewart has ridiculously claimed that Tottenham might battle against relegation next season if they lose Harry Kane.
Kane has asked to leave and Manchester City might fulfil the conditions needed to make him their player in this transfer window.
The England captain has been a major contributor to Tottenham’s recent successes.
As they look to become a top-four club again, keeping him would make their task easier.
Spurs can also achieve that if they replace him with a good striker, even though their preference is to keep him.
Like most Tottenham fans, Stewart is worried about the prospect of losing the striker this summer.
He believes Kane is so important to Tottenham that losing him might change them from top four contenders to relegation battlers.
He exclusively told Football FanCast: “I’m just a bit concerned about what Spurs are going to do moving forward.
“If they sell Kane and don’t get any money for the transfer budget, I’d be concerned that they may be battling relegation next season and not fighting for the top four.”
His fears a ridiculous considering that Spurs has other talented players who deliver when he is unavailable.

They have everything to offer. They can pick from the litter.
Good point.
Absolutely wrong. They killed the club because they didn’t care about the club but only about enhancing their property portfolio. They killed the club to make money for themselves, so it wasn’t for nothing.
100%
It’s that wonderfull new corporate stadium they all can’t wait to play in……oh no, they avoid us like a leper.
Waste of time. Killed the club for nothing.
I think PS makes some valid points…how many games after our 1st loss to Liverpool did key players go missing…? I’d be surprised if we finish top 6 with our sqaud as is & a bottom half finish if kane leaves.. I personally dont see Nuno being here by say Valentines day.
Last summer’s transfer window, we had personal terms accepted by Ruben Dias of Benfica who later signed for City. There’s always an excuse why we struggle to get deals done. You can play devil’s advocate but you know as well as I do that the selling club would always deal with anyone but Levy. For those supporters who say he is a hard headed negotiator who is always trying to do his best for the club by shaving some money of the deals, I say he is penny wise and pound foolish.
Same old same old. Levy will never learn. You can almost see the future – the manager struggles with the players he’s given and gets the sack. It’s like some endless cycle of misery.
We had an offer accepted for him. It was the player who knocked us back. Unsurprisingly.
Chelsea are buying Kounde. As usual, they have acted quickly and decisively. We are being linked with Zouma whom we shall probably sign instead of Romero.
Agreed.
Double post sorry
sooner have W.H.L
I think he has a point. If you take out Harry’s goals and assists plus Bales contribution from last year and I suspect we would have finished close to the relegation zone. Obviously if Harry goes it depends what Levy does with the money, whether he spends it all and what quality he attracts which are both acts of faith.
Last time we embarked on such an adventure it didn’t go well.
I think PS has a point. Take out the goals and assists from Harry as well as the goals from Bale which will not be available to us next year and we would have finished I suspect close to the relegation zone.
Of course Levy may or may not invest the Harry monies in full and wisely which are both acts of faith.
This has all the makings of Bale 2.0 which didnt work out well last time.
Don’t forget Ings turned us down when we were doing well under Poch (allegedly), why would he come now?
Well at the moment life will be a struggle for sure, though I don’t think we’ll be in a relegation battle. We currently have just a back up keeper and a 20 year old who doesn’t know our league. So it won’t be easy if Kane does leave. I’m not sure about Ings either, he turned us down when we were doing well and Levy upset S-Hampton so I doubt they’ll want to deal with him again.
Levy has got to decide that if he really wants top 4 in the next couple of seasons then he’s going to have to splash a lot of cash. Where that money is coming from other than Kane is a complete mystery. I think there might well be a deal agreed with City which includes the agreement by both sides that they deny it, to allow Levy the chance to plead poverty when he goes shopping for players.
The writing is on the wall for our chairman for sure, he’s let things slip so badly that now he’s in a right expensive pickle. Nice stadium shame about the squad.
That is hyperbole, projections and sheer madness. Tell me we would be hard fought to get into the top 6, but a bad Spurs team is better than at least 10-12 clubs just for starters. This is just bullocks pile on by voices around the club. We will be fine. I could not give one damn, I am a Spurs for over 40 years and will watch and root like crazy until the final whistle. Other fans root for their club, we tend to be wishy washy for things beyond our control. Lord knows Erik Lamela never deliver on his promise, but that young man give all he got whenever he can, if for nothing I wish we could embodied the heart he showed. Erik wore his shirt with pride. Going to miss that headless chicken.
How you can say his claim is ridiculous is, well, ridiculous. As stale as our squad had become, the amount of premier league experience and know how is primarily what stopped last season being worse than it was. The outgoings so far are seasoned campaigners; and all incomings appear to be youngsters from foreign leagues. We will need a certain amount of premier league ready players on the ins list, otherwise Stewart will be spot on, especially if, as expected, Kane goes
Stewey is a legend and he’s correct. If I was told it would be one or the other and put money on it…..I’d back going down. Kane will likely stay though..
Think they would but only if they decided to charge a premium.
However Ings may have signed up elsewhere by then.
God forbid Levy leaving it to the last minute if he sells Kane……
Southampton will not deal with Levy. I think we will be told to use Son and the players we have.
If that scenario plays out I suspect Ings, a ready made PL forward, will be heading in our direction
HE IS SPOT ON@
If he leaves and Spurs get off to a bad start the rot will set in quicker than the blight in my tomatoes (not a euphemism!)
The knives will be out for ENIC
Levy sells kane for circa £150m in August (or towards end of window) he then does his usual haggle and barter approach leaving us to pick up “players” on the last day. So we are suddenly 4games into the season before Kane back filled and we re-enforced. Levy will not pay top dollar, so any PL players are out, so add 3-6months for players to be at full throttle. I am not saying we will be fighting relegation, but I think mid table is fair bet.
This argument is not wrong but only if you said the scenario was Kane leaves and we then don’t improve the squad. In that scenario he is correct, we could fall into a relegation battle based on recent form.
If you spend the Kane money and bring in five players, there’s no way you’re in a relegation battle – so the comment is hypothetical horse sh’t really
That doesn’t make it any less ridiculous.
Ridiculous, eh? Loads of people have commented the same on this site.
I thought it was Stephane Chapuisat
