When Tottenham Hotspur decided to pull the plug on Nuno Espírito Santo as their manager, the north London brought in a proven winner in Antonio Conte in hopes he could salvage their season.
Despite only having the January transfer window improve, the Italian tactician turned the ship around. Conte had some peaks and valleys but finished strong with wins over Arsenal, Burnley, and Norwich City, leading to a top-four finish.
As UEFA Champions League football comes to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Conte has a whole summer to prepare and mold the squad into his vision for next season as he eyes challenging for trophies.
During a segment on talkSPORT, Scott Minto spoke about the optimism he has for Conte, who will now look to build a squad that will challenge for silverware next season.
“There’s no doubt about it, what Antonio Conte has done. You know, he’s one of those managers that is right up there. I mean, I think you’re given the right type of players and it may not be as pretty as a Liverpool or a Manchester City, but he knows how to win titles, doesn’t he? Did it with Chelsea,” Minto said.
“Absolutely superb. And as I say, it wasn’t pretty. I heard the training was so monotonous, but everybody knew what they needed to do. And you can’t say Spurs are Spursy anymore, anymore under Antonio, because they have a bit of a backbone.”
It will be interesting to see if Conte can take the squad to new heights next season after this rollercoaster finish.
