Former Premier League player and turned pundit Craig Burley believes that Keylor Navas, the new signing for Nottingham, would have been the perfect solution for Tottenham.
The veteran goalkeeper joined the Premier League team on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in January, and in his debut match against Leeds United, he put on a remarkable man-of-the-match performance making ‘a string of great saves‘, helping Nottingham to a 1-0 victory.
Burley suggested that if Tottenham’s current goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, had gotten injured earlier, Navas would have been an excellent choice for the team.
“You mentioned to me earlier, Keylor Navas going to Nottingham Forest. It’s all about timing.
“If you could have got somebody like that in on loan until the end of the season, if Lloris had got injured a little bit earlier, that’s a different kettle of fish, getting that quality of keeper in.”
Unfortunately, Lloris is out of action for six to eight weeks due to an injury, which is a significant setback for Tottenham, who have a series of crucial league and cup games in the coming weeks, including a Champions League tie against AC Milan.
Summer signing Fraser Forster is expected to step in for Lloris, but Tottenham are reportedly searching for another backup option on a free transfer. Former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has been mentioned as a possible option.
Had Tottenham been in need of a goalkeeper 10 days ago, they would have had the opportunity to sign Keylor Navas for free.
Between Tottenham and Nottingham, Navas would have likely opted for Conte’s team, considering their recent success and their manager’s reputation for developing talented players.
