Pundit calls Bale a boost to Tottenham but not enough of one to win the title

Pundit Alan Smith has admitted that adding Gareth Bale to their team has made Tottenham a stronger side, but he isn’t convinced that the Welshman will make them title contenders overnight.

Spurs have been waiting to win their first trophy since 2008 and it seems that this season might be the time that happens.

It is easy to understand the huge confidence at Spurs right now, they are managed by one of the best coaches when it comes to winning trophies, they have also had a fine transfer window, signing the likes of Bale, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon.

In all honesty, Spurs has one of the strongest teams in the league this season and it is not inconceivable that they may eventually win the Premier League.

However, Smith writing in his column in Standard Sports reckons that Bale will be an impactful signing, but he will not make Tottenham one of the title favourites just yet.

He instead backed them to enter the top four and to also end their wait for a new trophy.

An Excerpt from his column reads: “To be fair, positive reactions all round aren’t suddenly going to make Spurs title contenders, but they should improve standards and help in the quest for long-overdue silverware and a top-four place.

“It feels like a long time since Spurs thrashed Manchester United 6-1. But if Bale makes the matchday squad on Sunday, there’ll be an extra quiver of excitement in that dressing room that gets everyone going against West Ham.”
