Premier League rivals make surprise approach to sign Tottenham utility man

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur winger Ivan Perisic has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

A report from Football Transfers claims that Manchester United were keen on signing the 34-year-old on loan this season.

Apparently, the Red Devils made contact with the agent of the 34-year-old but they have been turned down. The approach from the Premier League club was knocked back by the representatives of the player.

Perisic was expected to leave Tottenham after the departure of Antonio Conte, who played a key role in his arrival.

The Croatian international had an impressive campaign with Tottenham last year and he picked up 12 assists across all competitions.

His versatility proved to be a huge bonus for the north London club who were able to use him as a winger as well as a full-back.

Tottenham could certainly use someone like him this season as well. His versatility, experience and mentality make him a key presence in the dressing room and letting him leave on loan could prove to be a poor decision.

Meanwhile, Manchester United need to bring in a left-back after the injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia. Erik ten Hag is lacking in depth in the left-back department and Manchester United are thought to be looking at a number of options including the Croatian.

It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can bring in the necessary reinforcements after the setback in their pursuit of the Croatian.
