‘preliminary talks underway’: Journalist confirms Tottenham approach for 23-year-old ace

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to strengthen their defensive department with the signing of Jean-Clair Todibo from OGC Nice.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed on Football Insider that Tottenham are pressing ahead with a move to sign the 23-year-old and preliminary talks are already underway.

He wrote: “Ange Postecoglou has confirmed Spurs want at least one centre-back, and they are exploring a move for Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo with preliminary talks underway. It won’t be an easy deal to do with Nice in a Ligue 1 title race and reluctant to lose one of their best players mid-season. I’m told the French side could price Tottenham out of a move for Todibo.”

The 23-year-old has established himself as a reliable performer in the league and he could prove to be a solid, long-term acquisition for Tottenham as well. He will add defensive stability and his arrival will give Ange Postecoglou more options to work with.

Currently, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are the only reliable defenders at the club. Van de Ven has been outstanding for Tottenham since joining the club at the start of the season, but he is sidelined with an injury right now and Tottenham need alternatives. In addition to that, Eric Dier has been linked with the move away from the club in January.

Tottenham will be desperate to secure a quality central defender next month and Todibo certainly fits the profile. The 23-year-old French international will want to prove himself at the highest level and moving to the Premier League will be an exciting step up in his career.

He has the physical and technical attributes to thrive in English football and he could establish himself as a key defender for Tottenham in the years to come.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can secure an agreement with his club.
