Some Spurs And Fans In General Are In Desperate Need Of A Reality Check | opinion

Tottenham, like most other clubs, has been linked with a multitude of players, some have been reasonable and some have been, for the want of a better word, hysterical.

The Coronavirus pandemic and suspension of football has had a clear impact on Tottenham, more so than most clubs and it is a stretch to think that Daniel Levy will be sanctioning massive transfer fees.

There is a valid argument that even without the pandemic and suspension of football that Levy was unlikely to be giving the go-ahead to any big deals anyway.

Therefore, when you read about players being linked with a move to the Tottenham stadium with an £80-£100 million transfer fee attached you just know it is unlikely to happen.

One of the players constantly being linked with Spurs has been Lille’s Victor Osimhen (The Standard) but his price makes him an unrealistic option, he simply will not be setting up camp in North London next season, not if his reported valuation of £94 million is true (The Express).

The same applies to Philippe Coutinho, not because of his transfer fee, whatever that will be but because his wages make it unlikely that he will be signing for us despite the likes of The Express claiming that Spurs will meet his wage demands.

Players like Ryan Fraser and Willian could be more realistic but in the case of Willian, can you really see Levy agreeing to pay a 31-year-old with no resale value in excess of £100k per week? (The Metro)

Fraser will not have a huge wage packet in comparison but he will demand a signing on fee, that you can take to the bank.

The reality is that unless Tottenham offloads a significant amount of players and when I say significant I mean four to five players at a minimum, there is little chance that we will see much action in the transfer window this summer.

That is the reality, in my opinion, no matter what the rumours are claiming.
