Postecoglou reveals how he feels about the criticism towards Tottenham playing style

Ange Postecoglou has impressed at Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou has now revealed that he has no regrets despite the criticism of Tottenham’s playing style.

It has been close to 15 months since Ange Postecoglou took charge of Tottenham. He has got them playing an attacking and attractive brand of football and helped them secure a fifth-placed finish last season. But, they haven’t had an ideal start to the new season. Spurs have only won two out of their first five Premier League games. While they did return to winning ways against Brentford, the Australian manager surely has a lot to take care of.

The former Celtic manager has made some significant changes at the North London club. They are now focusing on signing young players who can help them in the long run and have been playing some exciting football. But, he has also faced significant criticism for sticking to his ideas even when things haven’t been gone their way.

While speaking on a fan forum at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday evening, the Spurs boss reflected on the criticism that has been directed towards him. He was asked if he would do anything differently from his first 15 months at the club.

Postecoglou said via football.london: “I guess there’s nothing I would do differently and I’ll tell you why because every decision I have made I have made in a moment where I believed it was the right one for the club,”

“Maybe later on you find out more information or you think you would have dealt with things a bit more differently, but I’ve always believed that if you have a really strong anchor in your beliefs in what you want to do, no decision you make is a mistake.

“All it is is a misstep going in the direction you want to but there’s no decision I’ve made or anything I’ve done in the last 15 months that I regret or I think I would have done differently given the information I had at that time.”

As long as the results were going their way, not many were highlighting the fact that Spurs were playing with a very high line under the Australian boss. But, every time things go wrong, it tends to come into the limelight. Apart from that, he has also been criticised for not hiring a specialised set-piece coach.

Postecoglou has stuck to his ideas and he is unlikely to change anything going forward. The former Celtic manager feels his ideas will eventually guide Spurs to glory. While things have gone wrong at times, he doesn’t consider those to be mistakes. He feels he has taken the right steps towards helping Tottenham get better and doesn’t regret any decision he has taken over the last 15 months.
