Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now hit out at critics for questioning his attacking style of football.

The North London club have impressed with their free-flowing football since the arrival of Postecoglou. However, it has made them vulnerable at the back at times. There have been calls for Postecoglou to be slightly pragmatic with his approach, but the Australian has conviction in his approach and he is unwilling to change in order to appease others.

Postecoglou told Optus Sport: “From my perspective, it’s about what everyone wants me to do is what everyone else does. Now, I’m just not going to do that because there’s a reason I’m here today, it’s not because I’ve done what everyone else does.

“So I think everyone has their own unique journey to get to somewhere, I didn’t get here by doing what everyone else is doing.

“So I get the people who say ‘be more pragmatic’ like everyone else – But I don’t want to be like everyone else. What others see as stubbornness or me being dogmatic, I just see it as real belief in what I’m doing.”

Can Postecoglou deliver success?

Tottenham will be expected to fight for trophies in the coming seasons, and it will be interesting to see if Ange Postecoglou can help them grind out important results.

The Australian has been backed significantly in the transfer market with quality signings and he will be expected to deliver the results on the pitch now. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get over their weaknesses and end they wait for a trophy.

Spurs have brought in some quality players and there is no reason why they cannot fight for trophies. However, they will need to cut out the defensive mistakes from their game in order to win major trophies. Postecoglou will need to bring in quality defensive players or alter his system slightly so that Tottenham are more organised defensively.

It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
