Portuguese outlet details the mix-up Tottenham had to finalize Rodrigo Bentancur transfer

Tottenham Hotspur was busy on the final day of the January transfer window. To improve their squad, the north London club landed a swoop of Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur, preparing to fight for an FA Cup and top-four spot.

However, the transfer to bring in the Uruguayan midfielder did have a bump in the road that could’ve been an embarrassing moment for Spurs.

According to Portuguese outlet Record (via Spurs Web), Tottenham reportedly sent Rodrigo Bentancur’s lawyers a contract with Luis Diaz’s name attached to it.

The details from the media outlet revealed that Bentancur’s lawyers a document prepared for the Porto winger, who snubbed a move to the north London club in favor of Liverpool a few days prior.

Although the deal eventually materialized, Record notes the mix-up ‘surprised’ many people implicated in the transaction. Nonetheless, Spurs finalized the signing for Bentancur on deadline day for a fee of €19 million with €6 million in add-ons.
