Poch Doesn’t Want To Be A Scratch Card Winner

By The Boy -

Maurico’s latest quotes picked up by The Guardian among many have got a few fans in a spin, and so this is my take.

“To win the Champions League in this circumstance, in this season – maybe I need to think a little bit to do something different in the future. Because to repeat this miracle, you know … But for sure, I go home. Whatever happens tomorrow, I go home.”

First of all, postulating about achieving the extremely unlikely is the territory of the throwaway remark.

‘If I married a supermodel, I’d happily give up my current lifestyle of smoking, drinking and wearing the same underpants for an entire week.’

The odds of Spurs of winning the Champions League are not optimistic. Liverpool are favourites generally @4/9, Ajax are mostly @3/1 and Tottenham Hotspur are @7/1 with all the bookies you’ve ever heard of.

I think Poch is tired.

It’s been a long campaign, and with the injury problems he’s had to face; one that occasionally has been like herding cats.

The ‘Whatever happens tomorrow, I go home’, line is almost certainly more about the desire to return to his family, win lose or draw. It’s a natural emotion to feel – if a strange comment to issue publicly.

As for the ‘miracle’ part, this is more worrying – IF your name is Daniel Levy.

As this blog has been saying for some time, if Spurs ever won anything under ENIC, then it would be entirely down to luck.

Any normal – truly happy manager – would take a Champions League win and want to use it as leverage to win more silverware.

Poch clearly understands that he is in a permanent ‘smash and grab’ situation with the club.

Poch clearly knows it will have been a fluke, a miracle.

Only a fool would believe that miracles can be repeated.

Even the deceitful clowns that constructed our religious texts moved from one miracle to another. They knew you gotta keep fiction fresh.

I’ve given Poch a rough ride for some of his comments, but these reflect some genuine integrity.

In the final analysis, he doesn’t want to be a scratch-card winner.

Yep. Luck….and dubiousity. ENIC FC are only in this position cos of haphazard use of VAR.

I admire what Poch has done for us under unbelievably restrictive constraints and whilst I wouldn’t like it I could see him walking this summer and wouldn’t blame him one bit.
Levy has pushed him into a corner and last night’s result and performance by Liverpool is what he has alluded to in his more recent statements.
Levy has shit all over Spurs with his tightfistedness and his chickens are about to come home to roost.Yes he has got his CL for the shopping mall, but I think it will probably be the only time without serious investment. And I’m not talking about 100M made up mostly from sales. We are looking at minimum 2-300 M to get in quality and shift the deadwood.
I have said before that we,The Arse and Utd.and perhaps the chavs to a lesser extent, have huge rebuilding projects ahead.Otherwise the league will go to City or Liverpool for years to come.
But hey why not forge ahead with our gentrification of the surrounding area and neglect the team totally. We don’t want our corporate clients wading through uncollected rubbish on the way to their nirvana do we.Plus you get to watch Adele and some nfl shit.Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

Claudio Ranieri was the mastermind of the last great football miracle.
I can imagine Poch seeing what happened to him, as a reason to contemplate moving on if this most improbable of achievement is realised. It surely can’t be bettered the next season. Anyone who wins the lottery proclaiming it was a shrewd investment is a moron.

We should not ignore the fact however, that Poch always comes out with some garbled statement or other ahead of big games. It’s a weird and transparent attempt to deflect pressure away from the players in my opinion. Perhaps it works. Sometimes.

Win it or whimper out, either way I don’t think he will be leaving.

This

If this was any other team and manager your thoughts would be (after winning) “next year we go for the league title”..

There are stupid people I know that still believe Levy is going to spend BIG next year even though our very own Donna has told the media otherwise…..
