Poch Describing His Demise At Espanyol – Could Be Him Talking About His Tottenham Exit

By The Boy -

Disillusionment, fatigue, unhappiness, the need for a new face. The parallels are all too chilling.

I’m no fan of wit and wisdom that feels like it would be more at home on a fridge magnet, but Albert Einstein’s line: ‘insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results‘ resonates somewhat.

Pochettino’s book, A Brave New World with the hugely respected journalist Guillem Ballague ,was an ambitious undertaking. Whilst undoubtedly an interesting read, one cannot ignore the fact that its focal point was an English football manager who had yet to win a trophy in England.

In the aftermath of Mauricio’s departure from Spurs, it is evident that personable Argentine has won the hearts and minds of many fans, and that he will be sorely missed.

This extract from the book published in 2012 turns Poch’s dismissal from being a misfortune into a tragedy.

Mauricio appears to be a man of great integrity, and perhaps what he needs is a club where there are fewer commercial pressures, and perhaps greater freedom, so he can call the shots.

I actually don’t doubt this statement at all…I would say though that I don’t think Jose would have gotten us there. I am not even sure how we got there.

Had Jose already been manager would we have won the CL final?

I don’t know…it can always happen, they back up there again this year with shrewd purchases, not spent loads. I do think that 7 yrs out of 10 you can pick winner or at least narrow it down to 2 teams, 2yrs out of 10 you will struggle to narrow it down to 3 teams and 1 yr you have no clue. Usually that 1 yr is when the best teams look rubbish (like the year Leicester won). That is still better than most other leagues, bar Italy you can pretty much bet your house on guessing the team that will win it, or narrow it down to one of 2.

Ouch IMO the PL title dream realistically ended when the Foxes won it in 2016!!

What ever peoples views on Poch from our side, our rival fans are climbing over themselves to get their bosses sacked to employ him. Arsenal, United and West ham I have heard are begging to get him in. I cant remember any of them clambering for Jose.

The messiah has arrived when forgetting talk of “projects” Mourinhio said: “We cannot win the Premier League this season, but we can win it next season. Not will, but can.”
Lovely jubbly as the Champagne corks are popping already!!

This is how I hope for it to go. Poch goes to Spain for five years and smashes it. Jose smashes it for five years here too. They both get fed up and swap😁

So Ian and Myra has become Peter and Jordan.

Let’s see how long this one lasts. Levy’s peers can’t bare a small negotiating period with him, Mourinho will be sick to the back teeth once the cameras have left. His wages will soften the blow, Daniel found some cash it seems.

If there one thing I have learned in life is that tough blaggers rarely have the ability to nurture young talent. Pocchetino’s nurturing qualities meant he was also respectful to his employer. He was still a manager on the way up, not an arrogant title winner. So he nurtured and conformed and gave Spurs fans something they have not had in a few decades: regular elite European football.

You may be a tough negotiator, but I doubt you could have mentored Alli, Kane, Dier, Son and Winks.

His deepest values were that he would be rewarded for his work by being backed to go for the next level.

His values were not those of Daniel Levy.

Daniel Levy saw him as someone to use until his value went down. My view is that as soon as Pocchetino said he might leave if he won UCL he was dead in the water: no manager under Levy has ever left on their own terms….have they?

Yeah, at least with Mourinho the pressers will be lively. He doesn’t like to mince words.

Prophetic words indeed. Had he not been poached by Spurs from Soton, I expect that his tenure there would have ended exactly the same way. These days hard-nosed pragmatism seems to get the results rather than idealistic philosophies.Hopefully, Poch can learn some important management lessons from all this, although he couldn’t seemingly learn any tactical ones. Will there be a sequel to Brave New World? Probably, once the gagging order ends.Unfortunately Poch was on the receiving end of a Levy ‘not backed, cracked and sacked’ wax. He wasn’t the first and won’t be the last. We move on.

Yeah I’m struggling with some of the ludicrous knee-jerk sympathy doing the rounds for Poch. He’s spent the last couple of years talking some of the most disingenuous mind-numbing deflective codswallop to fans and press like some grumpy little girl unhappy that their boyfriend wasn’t living up to promises made in bed. Not anyone’s fault but Pochs that he didn’t gut-up and have it out with the bald one two Summers ago. We were on the outside ffs and could see clear as a bell what was going on and where this was headed. Also, fun fact; he was on $8million quid a year and just got a massive multi-million quid pay off for winning absolutely nothing in his entire time at the club.

If it’s sympathy you’re looking for brother, you’ve come to the wrong shop.
