‘Plotting a swoop for him’ – Tottenham thinking about signing Premier League flop in January

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Football Transfers, Tottenham Hotspur are showing an interest in signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Spurs are looking to sign a new midfielder and have been previously linked with the likes of Conor Gallagher in the summer.

And while they failed to sign the Chelsea man in the summer, they are being linked with a move for a midfielder in the winter transfer window.

According to the report, Tottenham are ‘interested in signing’ the Manchester City flop and could make ‘a concrete approach’ to sign him in January.

As per the report, Kalvin Phillips has been left frustrated with his limited role at City and has ‘decided to move away in January’.

The report however adds that signing him will not be straightforward for the North London club as they face stiff competition from Newcastle and Everton, both clubs ‘plotting a swoop for him’.

The report also claims Arsenal and Liverpool are ‘keeping a close eye’ on the midfielder’s current situation.

Kalvin Phillips joined Manchester City from Leeds United last summer for £42m on a 6 year deal but the move has not worked out for him so far.

He failed to establish himself as a first-team regular last year and has fallen down the pecking order further with the arrival of Kovacic and Matheus Nunes, Rodrigo, all ahead of him.

With Hojbjerg expected to leave the club, Phillips could be a shrewed signing from Tottenham if they decide to make a concrete move for him.
