“Players with talent like that” – Pundit finds positives in Tottenham’s latest injury woes

By Mehdi Gokal -

Richarlison’s injury, according to Frank McAvennie, has a positive for Tottenham because it will give the forward the time he needs to rest up after his World Cup efforts.

The Brazilian was one of the best forwards on display in Qatar, contributing to three goals and one assist over the course of his four games.

However, the World Cup was a bittersweet experience for the Tottenham player as one of the favourites, Brazil, was eliminated by Croatia in the quarterfinals.

The 25-year-old sustained an injury during the quarterfinal game, and it is anticipated that he won’t be available until at least mid-January.

Richarlison is not the only forward Antonio Conte is without; Lucas Moura is also out injured, though the Spurs manager admitted last week that the the 30-year-old is close is full recovery.

McAvennie believes Richarlison will be able to return stronger after a few weeks of rest.

When asked if Spurs’ loss of the forward is a major blow, the former striker told Football Insider:

“I do not think so.

“He is due a couple of weeks rest. The scan will just be to see how bad it is. If he has just pulled his hamstring he will be fine.

“He has showed what he can do but I think he has got to do it more. Players with talent like tha have got to be doing it more. That is what Conte will be wanting.

“He is a great talent and he needed a couple of weeks off anyway.“

Tottenham are currently fourth in the league, 3 points behind Newcastle, 5 points behind Manchester City, and 10 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

They face Aston Villa next who have shown sign of resurgence under new manager Unai Emery having already beaten the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea.
