Player turns down contract offer from Tottenham and joins Premier League rivals instead

Manchester City are poised to secure the services of Han Willhoft-King, a former talent from Tottenham Hotspur’s academy.

This move signifies a pivotal moment in the 18-year-old’s career as he looks to advance in Man City’s youth setup.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League champions acted swiftly to finalise a two-year contract with Willhoft-King, paving the way for his integration into their Under-19 squad.

He shared on X:

“EXCL: Manchester City agree deal to sign 2006 born talented midfielder Han Willhoft-King for the U19. Willhoft-King left Tottenham few weeks ago and he’s joining #MCFC on two year contract. Medical tests set to take place shortly.”

Tottenham recently bid farewell to Willhoft-King, who chose to explore new opportunities following the expiration of his contract with the club.

This decision followed the Spurs’ release of several players whose contracts had concluded.
Having joined Tottenham at the age of six, Willhoft-King progressed through the ranks, notably excelling in the U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup last season.

He made a significant impact with 16 appearances and two goals, earning recognition as a standout talent among his peers. (Transfermarkt)

John Wenham, a reputable club insider, had disclosed that despite Spurs’ efforts to retain Willhoft-King by offering him a new contract, the midfielder opted to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Wenham emphasised the club’s admiration for Willhoft-King’s abilities, while respecting his decision to seek a new path.

While Willhoft-King’s departure represents a loss for the Lilywhites, it underscores the club’s dedication to nurturing young talent and supporting their growth.
