Player has decided to join Tottenham ‘despite an approach’ from top European club

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed on a deal to sign the South American forward Alejo Veliz.

The Central Rosario striker was reportedly a target for a top European club but Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the player has decided to join Tottenham ‘despite an approach’.

The 19-year-old scored 11 goals across all competitions and he could prove to be a useful long-term option in the attack for the north London outfit.

Tottenham need to add more goals to their side and Veliz could share the goal-scoring burden alongside Harry Kane.

If the England international ends up staying at the club beyond this summer, Veliz could be expected to be an understudy to him.

Kane has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich recently. The German outfit are hoping to sign him for a reasonable price this summer. The England international be out of contract next summer and Tottenham will not want to lose him on a free transfer.

If the 30-year-old striker ends up leaving the club, Veliz might fancy his chances of playing regular football in the Premier League with Tottenham. The talented young Argentine forward will need time to adapt to the Premier League but he has the technical attributes to thrive under Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian manager prefers free-flowing attacking football and it will be interesting to see if he can get the best out of his new signing and help him develop further.

Romano does not mention the details of the transfer, but a report from Daily Mail claims that the striker is valued at £13 million and therefore the final fee is expected to be in that region.
