Tottenham fans were delighted to see their team start the reign of Ryan Mason with a win.
After a poor 2021, the club fired Jose Mourinho earlier in the week just before their game against the Saints.
Mason, who had been handling the club’s academy, has been made their manager for the rest of the season on an interim basis.
His first task was to beat Southampton before his team faces Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend.
He led them to a 2-1 comeback win after Danny Ings had given the Saints the lead in the first half.
His winning start has brought much-needed positivity to the club and the way his team played differed from how they would have done under Mourinho.
The club posted about Mason’s winning start on their Twitter account and fans made their pleasure known under the comments.
One said they played better than under the Special One and one asked for a permanent deal to be handed to him already. Here are some reactions:

City will chuck the league cup? What planet are you on
And Saints have been dismal of late; I actually wondered – a while back now – whether they might be another of those teams, seemingly in no danger half way through the season who then go on a protracted slump and end up getting relegated (always seemed just too big a gap) like they themselves did in 1974-75.
Only saw the highlights but it looked as if Saints, who themselves have been dismal for weeks, were giving us a bit of a battering in the first half. Doesn’t augur well for Sunday, but I must stick with my prediction – months ago – that we would win this cup, however unpromising that prospect looks at this moment in time..
When I was vex with sugar I went to his drum and let him know
Not much better if at all. There were three really big positives though:
All the teams above us in the league have beaten us….some of them twice…don’t think the latter has happened yet to any team beneath us….
Not the league cup. The tweet said trophys as in , go on to success. I expect City will chuck the League cup. They want CL.
We’ve been losing frequently to teams below us in the league.
Yeah, a win’s a win, but I don’t congratulate myself because I managed to drive home from work on a Wednesday without crashing into the back of a Corsa.
I think most sane people realise that anything good that ever happens with the team is usually by accident, where Levy is concerned.
What do I have to do with anything?
Quite.
Look, a Kane-less Spurs this season isn’t a football team you would back to win any Premiership game.
So let’s just take the points, wish Ryan well and stop trying to keep making a case for Jose because we didn’t look like world beaters. Mason’s only been coaching the team for two days…
Wins a win though innit, that was the mantra when trudged away to three points.
They’ve had two days to get the linen out of the wash to see how much brown they can actually wash out. Jose had 18 months.
Agreed. We were awful today…no shock the 3 players that went off are the same 3 who dont have 90 mins in there legs… I mean how is that possible 7 months into a season. Its just as well Ings went off injured…Southampton can consider themselves unlucky…Mourinho can consider himself unfortunate in that our last 7 games apart from Leicester are all against teams beneath us in the league.
Yup
Oh the fun, that protest footage on sky…there at the forefront was them 2 from we are Tottenham tv, holding up their banners and yelling at the cameras…..you go back not 12 months ago and they’ve got a vid asking “is Levy/ENIC the right owners to take us forward?,…”where they umm an ahhh about how Levys been a great chairman and taken us to next level(yes, that again) but is a bit play it safely. Then the classic quote..”do I think we should be protesting with the ENIC out banners…? No. I don’t”….fast forward to earlier this evening…..
There is your problem. The1993 to 1998 was the whole of Spurs history gang.
Struth.
A crap of in moderately lighter shade of brown is still a crap.
My heart sank when Winks come on, and it never come up for air…we were lucky first half and ok in the 2nd..Celso & N’dom need to step up and Moura reverted to type…
Levy is lucky always he gets away with murder every season you never know we may finish top4 and qualify the champions league and win on Sunday and he will be genius again.
It is ok we have no choice now 6 games left let’s finish the season
Easty will give us reality ( I hope🤞)
Perception is reality, also a pile of crap. We were poor no better than before. Oh how fickle
10 men outplaying Villa that is scary on Sunday
Some of those tweets are embarrassing. We were woeful first half, but better the second and scraped the win. That’s it!
Maybe Vini rested just in case Harry doesn’t make it on Sunday
you never know they can win it is 1 off game I say they have 1 % chance and that can happen.
Yeah you are right just read he is out 3 games Spurs, Palace and Chelsea cheers
Fair point👍
But if Kane hadn’t been playing we would have lost he made all four of Sons goals and scored himself. Not sure Vini would have contributed the same
45+3: John Stones will now be OUT of the Carabao Cup final.
mentions it on sky live match thing,i wasnt sure.
Predictable. I heard it was dirge for the most part. That poor fool thinks this squad will win trophys without Jose…..face plant
Is that included the league cup?
Stones to miss final as he has got sent off .
People have short memory we scored 5 goals and won vs Saints when Mourinho was in charge, today’s line up will be the same in the final of the cup some fans were questioning why he did not play Rodon, simple he is not playing the final and today was testing the final 11 in cup cheers.
