‘Fascinating’ Spurs player has ‘made his mind up’ about leaving the club with some ‘big clubs’ interested in signing him

Amid ongoing speculation, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg appears to have set his sights on an exit from Tottenham Hotspur, journalist Paul Brown has suggested.

Since joining Spurs in 2020 from Southampton, Hojbjerg has been a consistent and reliable figure in the midfield and a fascinating personality in the dressing room.

However, the change in manager to Ange Postecoglou this season has seen him slide down the pecking order, with Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr preferred due to their fit into the new system.

He was strongly linked with a move away in the summer transfer window with Atletico Madrid one of the clubs interested in him the most but a deal could not be agreed then.

He is still being linked with a move away with Juventus and Atletico Madrid now both in the running for his signing.

The current injury crisis at the club has given Hojbjerg a run of games and he has put in a solid performance each time.

Yet, journalist Paul Brown asserts that the 28-year-old has ‘made up his mind’ to depart Spurs in January, driven by the desire for regular game time.

He claims that the 28-year-old wants to play more regularly and with the big clubs like Juventus and Atletico Madrid eyeing him, he would be keen to leave.

Brown told GiveMeSport:

“I think Hojbjerg has made his mind up that he wants to leave. He was told that he could leave if the right deal came along in the last window and I think that probably made his mind up. He’s in the team now because of injuries, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to stay there for very long and I think he knows it. At this stage of his career, he wants to be playing regularly and there are some pretty big clubs looking at him who’d be able to give him more game time than Spurs.”

The situation will be tricky for Spurs due to the upcoming AFCON which will see Spurs be without the likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for up to 6 weeks.

With limited options available in the midfield and potential departures, Spurs’ response in the January transfer window could determine Hojbjerg’s exit, as they may sanction a move if adequate replacements are secured to cover for the absent duo.
