Tottenham Hotspur signed Destiny Udogie from Udinese for a fee of €25 million and he has been a quality player for them.
The 21-year-old has established himself as a key player for Tottenham and his performance have been outstanding in the Premier League. The Italian defender is likely to improve with coaching and experience and he could develop into a top-class left-back in the coming seasons.
The transfer is already looking like a bargain and it could prove to be a masterstroke if Udogie manages to fulfil his tremendous potential.
The player’s agent Stefano Antonelli has now revealed to Tuttosport how former Tottenham director Fabio Paratici played a key role in his signing. He has revealed that Paratici was very good in his dealings with Udinese and he managed to see off competition from European heavyweights like Inter Milan and Juventus.
He said: “Football is made up of moments. At that moment, Paratici was very good at removing him from the market and then leaving him on loan to Udinese. He didn’t leave him for Juventus or Inter.
“If another year had passed, I’m sure Inter or Juventus would have signed him, but that wasn’t the time for them to spend the €25m that Tottenham paid.”
Tottenham need to invest in talents like Destiny Udogie
Udogie is certainly one of the most talented left-backs in European football right now and Tottenham have done extremely well to secure his services.
They cannot afford to compete with the European elite financially, and therefore they will need to snap up top quality talents on a bargain when the opportunity represents itself.
Udogie is likely to justify the investment in the coming seasons and Tottenham will be hoping to pull off similar signings in the near future as well.
