Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has been linked to the move away from the club at the end of the season.
The 29-year-old was linked with an exit at the start of the season as well but the Londoners managed to keep him at the club amid interest from Bayern Munich. There have been rumours that Manchester United could look to sign the England international at the end of the season.
David Ornstein has now revealed that the Red Devils will have to pay a British transfer record fee in order to sign the player. He has revealed that Tottenham want at least £100 million in a lump sum and that is only likely to be the initial outlay.
It seems that Manchester United will have to pay more than what Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez. The Blues reportedly signed him for a fee of around £106.8 million in January.
“Definitely [£100 million or above could be the asking price]. Daniel Levy will want the highest possible price and there was a report in the Times that they want at least a £100 million in a lump sum. But that isn’t the final price. That could be the initial outlay”, he said on the FIVE YouTube channel.
“You will speak to people at Tottenham who would hypothetically say way higher than that. Crazy numbers to even consider it with a year to go. And that’s their starting price at the moment.
“But let’s see when we get to the summer how Harry Kane feels, how Tottenham’s push for the top four goes, whether he agitates for a move or not, whether Tottenham decides if they want to cash in and who’s there at the table.”
Kane has been one of the best players in the world for a number of years and he could transform Manchester United into title contenders. It is understandable why Tottenham are demanding a premium for his services.
The 29-year-old has 23 goals across all competitions and his departure would be a massive blow for Tottenham. However, the player might feel that he needs to join a big club in order to win trophies and he could seriously consider leaving the London club if they fail to match up to his ambitions.
