Recent reports regarding Barcelona’s Ansu Fati suggested that the young attacker had chosen Brighton over Tottenham. However, David Ornstein of The Athletic has provided a different perspective, revealing that it was not Fati who turned down Spurs but rather their manager, Ange Postecoglou, who turned down the chance to sign the Barcelona man.
Ornstein disclosed that Tottenham had been offered the opportunity to acquire Ansu Fati, with several clubs, including Chelsea, considering the young player.
However, it was Postecoglou who decided to pursue a different profile of forward, focusing on Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson instead.
Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Ornstein shared what he knows about the Fati’s move to Brighton:
“Clearly Ansu Fati was seen as Xavi and Barcelona as among the names they were willing to part with.
A number of clubs were offered him including Tottenham and Chelsea, they considered it, in the case of Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou was keen to pursue a different profile of forward, it appears that is Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.”
Johnson has been linked with a move to Tottenham for quite some time. Romano claimed yesterday that the player has the approval of the manager and the rest of the board as well.
The latest reports suggest that advanced negotiations between Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are ongoing, hinting at an imminent deal before the transfer window closes.

All reports indicate that the Welsh attacker will be Spurs’ next and perhaps last signing of the window although there has been a late interest in Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly. That is one to watch as well.
