Opinion: Today’s Premier League Statement Stinks Of A Grotesque Weakness

By The Boy -

The Premier League has made a statement today about which reminds me of the Judge’s summing up in Pink Floyd’s The Wall, specifically the bit about suffering and defecation.

This element of the Premier League’s statement is conservative to the point of being detached from reality. And I’m someone that believes the manner in which the UK government has dealt with the COVID-19 to be deeply flawed. My personal take on the current crisis is firmly aligned with the evaluations of Peter Hitchens on the subject.

In short, the notion that a proposed 30% pay cut for top-flight footballers amounts to anything close to a solitary damn is woefully misjudged.

Asking ‘civilians’, the non-playing staff at Tottenham, to apply for state aid to comprise 80% of their take-home pay? That was a fundamentally bad idea.

Asking prima donnas – in some instances earning what normal people make in a year, in a week whilst sitting at home doing nothing beyond some nominal exercising – is entirely scandalous.

This is grotesque. Noting shy of grotesque.

I for one will not be clapping outside at 8pm for the multi millionaire EPL players who are doing so little in these stranger than strange times.
