Opinion: It’s Extremely Difficult To Take A Single Word Dele Alli Says Seriously

Dele Alli is about to embark upon his 7th season at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and those of us who see characteristics such as mental strength, consistency, and willingness to serve have already lost patience with the now 25-year-old on numerous occasions. Sure, there have been some great little flicks and tricks, but little of substance and if José Mourinho’s contempt wasn’t enough, then perhaps Gareth Southgate’s disinterest will count for more with the boy’s apologists? Who knows or cares. The metric in professional sport is winning and for a player so heavily tipped for the top, Dele Alli’s current situation does not obviously point towards improvement.

Yet we are assured by the Milton Keynes lad, just as a reality TV star, that we have yet to see the best of him. Given Daniel Levy’s transfer quagmire, even if he failed to impress in the sing-off, there’s still a guaranteed berth for him in N17.

Talking exclusively to Goal we are told, “The only person I blame is myself, should I be performing at a level where it is difficult to not put me in the team or not play me. I don’t blame anyone but myself. Working with Mourinho was a great experience and one I learned a lot from.”

Quite what Dele learned from the Portuguese’s disdain is anyone’s guess. 7th time lucky, eh? Wake me when it actually happens, that’s my take!

I see what you’re saying. All the best players reach a time when their peak is behind them. It comes with age and it’s a natural progression. It doesn’t diminish their past achievements. The difference between the best players and Dele is effort. He has the ability, he has the potential, but he’s lazy. He doesn’t care enough. He’s wasted talent. He’s wasted that talent himself despite knowing what the problem is. José told him, and the rest of us on Amazon. He has now stated publically that he’s nobody to blame but himself, but that’s all white noise if you don’t actually bother to get your sh1t together. No time in this life for wasters.

I’m not saying we should keep him now just that H seems to have glossed over his outstanding early career with us. Just saying there have been some great “flicks and tricks” does not represent that truthfully. That’s all.

Banged in, past tense. You don’t keep giving a player chances on the back of what they used to do before they finished giving a sh1t.

Dele at his best under Botchy got all his goals and assists playing in the number 10 role. He can’t defend so ask him to drop deeper and he gets bossed. He’s too much of a fairy to be a centre mid.

Don’t point out the facts, lol. He is an attacking midfield with a nasty streak with an eye for goal. Somehow he is playing as a 10, winger and striker all positions he does not excel in. The problem is, he is virtually done in Spurs shirt as a midfielder so he needs to get out of his own way and start passing the ball and stick a few in the net. Locelso, PEH and Tanguy own the spots. If we get Phillips or Sabitzer one of the 2 Locelso or Tanguy will move up to the 10. So right now it is marginal if he gets into the 11.

Hang on he banged in one hell of a lot of goals early doors in his career for us – broke records in fact. Please get your facts right.

Too many attempted flicks and nutmegs. A showboater with no end product. And he is slow. And extremely one footed. The opposition are always waiting for him to come inside onto his right foot and just take the ball for him. Sell!!!!!!

I never expect anyone to believe me. Always best to make your own enquiries and satisfy yourself. I assume you have the tel number.
I simply posted it as an observation on a topic that has popped up now and again on various recent blogs.
The person in question is a friend of the chap who sits in the same row as me. who I had offered a share of my season ticket earlier today. He replied “thanks but my mate has just been offered one off the bat, no waiting list anymore” . There was no other context and we have not previously discussed Spurs’ issues , it was an unsolicited addition to his reply (“No, thanks” would have sufficed) and I have no reason to think he has agenda in slipping in this nugget of info, so i thought i’d share it.

Dele’s a busted flush, just like Pamela…. 7 years and unable to hold down a first team place. Had both been at a properly run club they would’ve been shipped out years ago.

It’s worrying that our squad has so much deadwood that needs clearing out. Levy of course thinks they’re a talented bunch. Like I say … Worrying times.

Exactly. Of course it would be.
No matter how many give them up, they’ll be snapped up immediately by someone & it’s of no consequence if others think they’re foolish or wasting their money, etc as everyone has their own choices in life to make.

Massively lost his way with the trimmings of off field life taking over rather then knuckling down and working hard. In fairness to him the system we played last year was awful for him and a few others but at least he aint taken it to heart about warming the bench some time not even that

I just don’t think he is the player of three seasons ago, and what worked for him then doesn’t now.
I would sell, he would still attract a decent fee from a Villa or similar club.

It can happen, I wasn’t on the waiting list 15 years ago when I got my season ticket. I got a season ticket straight away as it was more expensive than the majority. They probably got a slightly more expensive ticket like I did. The waiting list is for the cheaper seats I think.

Dele Ali is a fantastic footballer who has lost his way and in a recent post i said he needs to concentrate on football none of the other stuff and he should be fine as to whether he can do that or not we will see

He only cost £5 mill

Sorry, do not believe that!
Just randomly called or emailed him/her did they then?
Fully aware many gold members don’t actually want a st but just wish to get priority on match tickets, but 40k+ on waiting list (allegedly) & they’ve exhausted it already?

Number 10 needs to know how to shoot .. dele can’t shoot outside the box .. not a dead ball specialist.. los celso and ndombele better in those positions..

Dele needs to go back to being a CM like at mk dons when we first bought him

Problem is – regarding his “outstanding performances he has given the team in the past” – that “past” is in now in the distance, and drifting further and further away towards the horizon. Reminds me of the summer of ’81 when my mum fell asleep on a lilo in Torremolinos.

EDIT: We got her back. Eventually.

Not post related -apologies H but I was interested to hear an acquaintance has secured a season ticket- not a member or on the waiting list. How bad is it at Enic Towers!

Deles career died of “primadonna No.10itis”

He had the tools to be a box to box midfield player when he was 16….nobody develops that type of player now. You need desire. When you’re a millionaire at 18 there’s none. Much easier to indulge in the hype and stroll around in the free role rather than work and become a monster like Gerrard. Oh well…

I hold no sympathy for Dele but these kids are treated as assets and sweated before they’ve know what’s what by people with no interest other than money. I recall Gaza being indulged and allowed to run wild under venables , he later mused on how his career might have gone under the firm hand of sir Alex, no saint himself, but sensible enough to understand the the need to protect the fledgling from the predators.

Yes had he not been such a ass he could have made the euro squad. Be really funny if England won. His big chance to shine for his country and he was too busy selling clothes and tipping his hat. As for the robbery if he goes on social flashing his stuff then you are asking for some no good to come along and make fun of you and steal your stuff. It is his own fault don’t forget poch was not playing him a lot at the end either.

I agree. He had a difficult year off the field with the robbery at knife point and his long term partner departing. These things have an effect on most of us. He has had time to reflect and no doubt his determination to bounce back can be questioned but given some of the more outstanding performances he has given the team in the past perhaps a little generosity now is not entirely misplaced?

I think the new man will take him aside and have some serious words about where he thinks he is going (new assistant I mean not Nuno).

There’s too much money in football, youngsters are made for life too soon, have too much free time to ponce about on social media or online betting. They lose their drive, hunger and eventually are caught out.

Way too harsh, unnecessarily so too.

He’s saying all the right things and he’s clearly been working his ass off this summer.

Let’s see if we can get the old hungry, angry and wonderfully gnarly player we used to have back.

Total luxury and makes a mockery of every kid who didn’t make the grade due to lack of effort and retaining possession.
Let’s hope he has finally learnt his lesson with or without us.

I dunno, I was an absolute pillock until I turned 25 and then realised I’d better buck my ideas up otherwise I was staring at a lifetime of soul destroying call centre work.

The penny might drop – I mean if I were him (and Dier for that matter) looking at what’s happening with the England squad I’d be pretty heavily motivated to have a long hard look in the mirror.
