Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has backed Jose Mourinho to bring “energy and belief to the dressing room” following his appointment as the club’s new head coach.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss was announced as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement this morning, less than 12 hours after the Argentine was relieved of his duties.
As The Independent reports, Levy has tried to lure Mourinho to Spurs on at least one occasion before, and wasted absolutely no time in moving to secure him while he was available.
In a club statement, Levy said of the appointment: “In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician.
“He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
Mourinho’s arrival has the potential to be divisive among fans considering his Chelsea connections and his recent failings in the Premier League, but Levy has hit the right notes with his welcoming words.
The 56-year-old is one thing that we all wished Pochettino was – a serial winner. He has won eight domestic titles across four different countries and the Champions League twice, with Porto and Inter Milan, as part of a total haul of 25 major trophies in management.
Is he still ‘The Special One’ that won all that silverware? We will soon find out, starting at West Ham United on Saturday.
“A leopard can’t change his spots”. All of you hoping Jose will be different at Spurs are wishful thinking. This is the most disappointing appointment Spurs could have made in my opinion. Manure fans must all be laughing uncontrollably. There may be some who send us their condolences because they know what we are in for. I see more of them laughing though because now they know our rise will end, and they will definitely climb back above us and probably do it with the manager we sacked.
We had an new identity under Poch, now we are going to be a bland version of Maureen’s vision like Cheatski and Manure.
I intensely dislike Maureen and his style of football, this is as bad as George Graham’s appointment. ENIC OUT.
The set up involves Levy, he’s the common denominator in all of this. One League Cup in 20 years and now he suddenly wants a ‘proven winner’? I don’t buy it, this is about money and nothing else…
Tight ars chairman – The biggest spender ever in football.
Bland footy – Spurs supporters.
A match made in heaven?
But she also has an abusive uncle involved (Levy) what chance does she have with so many bad eggs to deal with?
He is certainly very successful, especially going back a bit. More recently the relationship with his last 2 squads went to **** quick.Hmmmm.
Interesting trivia: Maureen was the 1st coach ever to have spent more than £1 billion on players during his career.
Either Levy or Maureen has undergone a total personality change.
The ballers that represent my manor.
F Levi and ENIC mate. Tottenham football team is what it’s about.
This makes me laugh. People who say levy don’t put the team first yet neither do some of the fans. Besotted with levy and ENIC. Those so called fans need reprogramming
I know – which is why Levy knows he can do anything he likes.
he thinks he is.
I support the team not the club. The team came first remember. I knew about football teams before I knew about football clubs.
I stopped reading at “stop going
He ain’t bigger than the club. No one can make my love for my Tottenham falter. It’s too deep. Everyone who enters her deserves a chance.
me too – which is why I simply cant get behind jose.
which historically he is famous for doing…you know…thinking of things other than himself? What you can do is stop going and force Levy’s hand, but fans wont because quite basically Levy could enslave their whole family and turn Tottenham into a slave nation similar to ancient Egypt but while there is a football club people will forgive him for at least 90mins a week.
SACK WAYNE BURNETT JOSE. Try bring in carrick
Would rather Leeds “mad dog.
I don’t think Jose is a good idea but hey
Winning well means a lot to me.
Give him a chance I say. Listen I’m total football. Flash football. Arrogant football. Swagger balling. I’m not expecting that but hey what can I do. Just have to hope he respects our traditions and tries to go along with them.
and yet you think Jose is a good idea and want someone that will respect players!! really!!
His first job should be sacking Wayne Burnett and bringing in someone the players respect.
she also has Levy…a guy that that will quite simply do anything to futher his own propaganda. I am one of those “not true fans” as quite simply, I love spurs, not the bricks and mortar, or the team on the pitch, but the club that believed its no use winning, you have to win well.
His only problem will be with the rubbish fake fans. those who put individuals in front of the football team.
The way our ting is set up it will be hard for any winner to get it wrong at spurs.
But she’s a strong woman. She can handle him. Don’t underestimate her. She’ll be ok
That will be after 10 years at Manure winning everything and finishing above us. I don’t think so…
Or, you love someone so much you can’t bare to see them dating a wrongun?
We’ll get 3 years out of him and win some shiny. Poch will be our manager after him. Poch ain’t finished at Tottenham
ENIC didn’t have the balls to back a great manger.
It’s like Jol all over again, Levy blames everyone but himself for problems and sacks people to deflect blame. Somebody shoot him please…
Portuguese fellows blue&white army. I’ll certainly be getting behind the manager of my club. Some people not gonna be supporting or watching. I don’t get them so called fans. It can’t be real love.
He’s a dinosaur and a has been, this just isn’t going to work out long term, if at all.
A has been, an eternal sulk and an egomaniac.
From the best and brightest managers in the world to a declining old curmudgeon who plays atrocious football.
Daniel Levy… what a guy eh?
I did hear that he was going to coaching lessons to look at modern coaching techniques, lets give him a chance…
If what they say is true and footballers only care about winning then who in our squad wouldn’t want to play under Mourinho. I think now players are more likely to want to stay and work under a proven winner rather than look to the exit door. On paper we have a very good squad and if Mourinho can galvanise the dressing room add one or two players we could be onto something good.
12 hours ago I was crying for Argentina, now I’m beginning to warm to this Mourinho lark. The King is dead, long live the King.
It’s a shame, dull footie
