Official: Tottenham confirm departure of key figure

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that senior assistant manager Chris Davies has left the club to become Birmingham City’s new manager.

On their official website, Spurs confirmed the rumours about Davies taking on the head coach role with the League One side and wished him success in his new position.

The 39-year-old Englishman, who joined the Lilywhites last summer as part of Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff, brings extensive experience from his previous roles at Swansea City, Liverpool, Celtic, and Leicester City.

Davies began his career at Swansea as an assistant to Brendan Rodgers and played a key role in the team’s promotion to the Premier League.

He followed Rodgers to Liverpool, contributing to the club’s second-place Premier League finish in his second season.

After a brief stint at Reading, Davies joined Celtic as an assistant manager, achieving notable success, including multiple domestic trebles and a record-breaking 69-match unbeaten run.

Continuing his partnership with Rodgers, Davies moved to Leicester City, securing an FA Cup victory and a Community Shield before leaving in April last year.

The move to Birmingham City presents a fresh challenge as the Blues aim to return to the Championship after getting relegated to League One, where they finished 22nd out of 24 teams last season.

Birmingham has faced considerable instability, going through four different managers last season. They now hope Davies can provide the stability and expertise needed to guide the team back to success.

Ange Postecoglou, who has praised Davies’ exceptional contributions, will now look to promote from within the coaching staff or find a new assistant to fill Davies’ role.
