Off Field Gossip: Spurs Ace was acting like cock of the walk

Roy Keane was a legendary footballer, a shockingly poor manager, and has now evolved into a real asset as a TV pundit. Last night wasn’t the first time the former Manchester United growler had torn into the superstar that is Dele Alli.

Earlier this month, Keane was quoted in The Mirror, warning the 23-year-old that getting the boot from the England squad might not be easy to reverse.

Last night, as Dele Alli reprised his Invisble Man routine for Tottenham – who could have done with some help as they were beaten by Liverpool again – the Irishman made an unwelcome revelation.

“He has had a few injuries, I give him that. But from what I hear off the field stuff, he basically thought he was a player. He thought he had achieved something. And today, he was non-existent.”

No shock to hear this at all. Too much haircut, too much girlfriend and too many endorsements. Not enough football.

Non-existent is about right. 22 successful passes all night long. Passing accuracy in the doldrums at 71% – that’s woeful.

12 of his 22 magic touches were back passes.

The boy’s a time-waster.
