“Nobody Wants It To End Like This”| Lloris Weighs In On How Football Finishes The Season

Hugo Lloris has told L’Equipe that scrapping the 2019-20 Premier League would be “terrible” and that “everybody” wants to get the season finished.

The Daily Mail understands that six to eight clubs, namely those at the bottom of the table, are trying to block ‘Project Restart’, the Premier League’s plan for a safe but swift return from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The relegation threatened clubs may feel aggreived at the proposal to play all remaining games at neutral venues, robbing them of home advantage which could have been so crucial to their chances of beating the drop.

But the Tottenham goalkeeper’s biggest sympathies would seemingly lie with Liverpool if the season was not completed incomplete, saying it would be “cruel” to deny the runaway leaders the coronation they deserve.

“We are in a situation where everyone wants to finish and have the verdict of the field,” Lloris told L’Equipe.

“It would be terrible if everything ended like that nine days before the end of the Premier League. It would also be cruel for Liverpool with the lead they have… They are almost champions.

“As with everyone, there would be a taste of unfinished business. In addition, we are entering the most exciting period, the most beautiful moment of the season. Nobody wants it to end like this.”

It’s a selfless viewpoint for the Frenchman to take as having the season declared null and void might suit Spurs*, as we sit seven points behind the holy grail that is Champions League qualification, with nine games to play.
