New summer signing reveals why he turned down offers from Arsenal and Chelsea to sign for Spurs

Richarlison has claimed that two other London clubs had approached him this summer.

The Brazilian revealed that both Chelsea and Arsenal had shown interest in the striker but a phone call from Antonio Conte convinced him to choose Tottenham Hotspur over them.

In July, the 25-year-old signed a five-year contract with Spurs after leaving Everton for a fee of £60 million. However, the Brazil international has stated that if Spurs manager Antonio Conte had not intervened, he could have ended up at another major club in the capital.

While speaking about his summer move to Spurs, he said (via Goal) :

“I know Chelsea made an offer, and I believe Arsenal also contacted Everton to ask about my situation, but Spurs came in and paid the fee, you know? It’s as simple as that. Everton had to sell some players to avoid a Financial Fair Play problem, and the negotiations were very brief, to be honest.

“I was on holiday in Brazil when I heard that Tottenham had made Everton an offer. I was happy because they are a huge team. Then it was all about the clubs negotiating a deal, and fortunately, everything went well. Antonio Conte called me during the negotiations and expressed how much he’d like to have me on board – that was vital for my decision.”

Richarlison is up against Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, and Dejan Kulusevski for a starting spot at Tottenham, but he has made eight appearances so far scoring twice in the Champions League against Marseille.

Tottenham sit third on the table, still unbeaten after seven games in the league this season, and will return to action on October 1 against their north London rivals Arsenal in what will be a crunch Premier League clash.
