‘Never say never’ – Popular pundit refuses to rule out midfielder’s Spurs return

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Moura has been linked with a move away from the club.

He was expected to move on during the summer transfer window but the Brazilian ended up staying.

The 30-year-old will be a free agent next summer and Football Insider are reporting that he might not renew his deal with the London giants due to the lack of regular first team football.

If Moura moves on in the summer, Spurs will need to bring in a replacement.

According to pundit Noel Whelan, 23-year-old Sporting midfielder Marcus Edwards could be a potential alternative.

Whelan said to Football Insider: “This is something that maybe hearts will want more than heads at Tottenham.

“It’s very difficult to move to another country to play your football. The game over there is different.

“Lucas Moura, a very talented player, could be leaving. That could leave a gaping hole for someone like Edwards to come in and have another chance.

“You never say never in football, especially after he puts in a performance like that – he looked so sharp.

“But sometimes it’s hard to go back. Only Daniel Levy and Conte will know whether it is possible.”

The former Spurs player left for Portugal in 2019 to secure regular first team football and he has developed into a quality player over the last three years.

Edwards produced an outstanding performance against Spurs in the Champions League earlier this season and there have been rumours of a potential return.

Furthermore, the player himself admitted after the Spurs game that he would like to return to the Premier League one day.

Edwards is a talented young player with the hunger to prove himself. A move to Spurs could be ideal for all parties. That said, there haven’t been any concrete links with his boyhood club just yet.
