Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest before the summer transfer window closes.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are currently working on a deal to sign the Welsh winger and negotiations are currently ongoing between the two clubs.
Brentford were hoping to sign the player as well but the Bees have now had an offer rejected for the player.
“For Tottenham, the situation of Brennan Johnson is very concrete because today Nottingham Forest rejected a bid from Brentford for Johnson,” Romano said on YouTube.
“Now Brentford are looking at different players so Johnson is no longer a priority and Tottenham are working on the deal. Negotiations are ongoing.”
Tottenham need to bring in attacking reinforcements after the departure of Harry Kane and Johnson could be a quality, long-term option for them.
The 22-year-old can operate as a right-sided winger as well as a central attacking midfielder. He will add creativity, pace and goals to the Tottenham attack.
He managed to score 10 goals across all competitions last season, and it is fair to assume that his numbers will improve when he is playing in an attack-minded side with top-quality players alongside him.
Playing alongside the likes of James Maddison and Son Heung-min could get the best out of the talented young winger and he is likely to improve further.
Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou prefers a free-flowing attacking system and the Australian could be the ideal manager to nurture the Nottingham Forest winger in the coming seasons.
It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can finalise an agreement in the next few days.
Tottenham certainly have the finances to get the deal done after the big-money departure of Kane and they should look to get the deal across the line as soon as possible.
