“Mourinho’s football will never go down in history” Italian legend criticises Mourinho’s style of play

By Bruce Grove -

Antonio Cassano has criticised Jose Mourinho’s tactics after watching Spurs fail to use their full potential in the game against Arsenal.

The Lilywhites made Mourinho their latest manager last season as they looked to end their wait for a trophy.

He has led them to the final of the Carabao Cup and they remain one of the favourites to win the Europa League.

The Special One is one of a few managers that has won at least two Champions Leagues as well as league titles in four different countries.

Spurs have brought him in to make them a winning team, but his football is questionable and it isn’t the sort to be admired by most football fans.

Cassano admits that Mourinho’s style did win silverware, but he says it makes little sense that with so many quality players that they did so much defending in the game against Arsenal last weekend.

The former Real Madrid hitman told CalciomercatoNo one can say that Mourinho’s teams have played and play well.

“Yet Mourinho has won two Champions Leagues, a genius like Cruyff has only won one. But we can’t compare Cruyff to Mourinho in the least.

“Mourinho’s football will never go down in history, I speak personally by saying that he doesn’t excite me.

“I saw Arsenal-Tottenham, Erik Lamela scored a sensational goal but Arsenal has less strong players than Tottenham.

“Tottenham have an impressive squad but have been defending the whole game except for the last 10 minutes. I can’t think that a coach who has won so much can go on like this.”

All teams know their weak links. Players know. Doherty is a liability against top teams. I dont think Maureen is a coach that restricts his teams attacking unless its needed. Some players are bored. No crowds, no atmosphere and it becomes dull. The fake crowd noise is shite. The sport is becoming boring.

Those of us familiar with the halcyon days of the swinging 60s were heartened by the consistently good performances of enterprising full backs of Messrs Kinnear and Knowles respectively. Whilst there was nothing flamboyant about their displays each were consistently good attracting minimal criticism me thinks!!

Japhet could do a job at right back?

Instead of Doherty’s predictable sideways/backward passes Doherty’s offensive role is using his pace to get to the bye line and whip a peach of a delivery into the mixer as all attacking full backs should do. Simples!

So the coaching staff shouting at the players to press and push higher up to little reaction means nothing? Or the fact that the players themselves have said dropping deep is not Jose’s plan?

Maybe he saw his players thrive, scoring 8 vs Palace and Burnley and then said “you know what, f— that, we’ll do nothing in the derby and get steamrollered for being passive instead.”

(Oh and FBs…Reguilon and Aurier, sure. But whenever Davies and/or Doherty plays, the situation changes dramatically.)

The “fans” will drive him out before then, if things don’t improve. Elsewhere, it’s now Klopp’s sixth season at Pool and they only started playing well in his third year, delivered a trophy in the fourth, and will sit below us, if we get at least a draw in our game in hand.

Six home league losses in a row, but they’re still backing him. If that had been Jose…

We have attack minded players, including the FB’s, yet we deploy such a mind numbingly negative style, and it’s the players who take the blame for desperate performances.
Could playing a more offensive style get worse results with this squad , I don’t think so.

Last season the fans were infuriated when Aurier played!

Im not a Doherty basher, i think he is playing in a new position in a struggling/off form team. Too much blame for a new player.

Hopefully he gets back to his aggressive wolves form👍

He’s using one dreadful game to bash Jose. If we’re still playing like that after another two summer windows I will pay attention then.

So why does he infuriate the fans by playing the much maligned Doherty??

Joses achievements will go down in history. José just needs a solid back four. Then his team’s play.
