Mourinho working hard to ensure Tottenham target doesn’t follow Fonseca

Jose Mourinho has called Tottenham target, Lorenzo Pellegrini, to assure him that he would be a relevant player in his squad next season, according to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness.

The midfielder is one of AS Roma’s most talented players and he enjoyed his time under Paulo Fonseca.

Fonseca is reportedly set to become the next Tottenham manager and the Portuguese boss would favour a reunion with Pellegrini.

Interestingly, the midfielder has a release clause for the smallish sum of 30m euros and that is a fee Spurs or any top club can pay.

He is worth more than that and Roma is looking to extend his contract until 2025 and the agreement will help them eliminate the release clause.

Fonseca is expected to ask for some players whom he thinks can deliver for him in London and Pellegrini is could be one of them.

However, the report says Roma is confident that he will not betray his city and make a move away.

They expect him to sign a new contract instead. That Mourinho has reached out to him shows he would be important to the club next season, and that may persuade him to stay.
