Mourinho is not looking to use Vinicius as just a backup

After his fine performance for Tottenham on his first start yesterday, Jose Mourinho has suggested that Carlos Vinicius could start alongside Harry Kane in the Tottenham attack.

The Brazilian was in brilliant form as he provided two assists in the 3-0 win to mark a memorable debut for the club.

Mourinho was full of praise for his new striker who did very well in his first game despite having to deal with barriers like language and having to adapt to a new system of play.

He claimed that it wasn’t easy for the striker who doesn’t have a good grasp of the English language yet, but he proved his worth.

The manager is convinced that even more will come from the striker before saying that the Brazilian doesn’t have to be the player that covers for Kane, opening the door for both of them to play together in the team.

‘He played well but he can do better,’ Mourinho said as quoted by Mail Online

‘It is a bit of a shame still, it is not easy not to speak English so the adaption to the group, in spite of having amazing guys that try to make him feel well, is not easy.

‘Different football, different way to play, to think, learning the way we press, learning the attacking movements.

‘He is still in a learning process, Vinicius can be much more than this. But first match I am really happy, the only thing that was missing was a goal.

‘But we can see he is much more than… he is not selfish, he is a good target man, he can even play with Harry Kane when his good period arrives.

‘He can play with Harry and not just be the guy to cover him. I am very happy and the feelings over everyone in the squad are good towards him.’
