Mourinho defends Spurs from “Spursy” accusations after West Ham capitulation

By Bruce Grove -

Jose Mourinho has dismissed suggestions that Tottenham’s capitulation against West Ham at the weekend was a typical way for them to be “Spursy”.

That term has been associated with the club because of their near misses when they almost reach a target like winning a trophy.

Spurs had run into a 3-0 lead against West Ham at the weekend thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min and it looked very much like they would go on and win the game.

They still had their three goals lead intact in the 80th minute, but West Ham fought back and a spectacular goal from Manuel Lanzini in the dying seconds of the game rescued a point for the Hammers.

Rival fans have started taunting Spurs for being “Spursy” in that defeat, but Mourinho insists that wasn’t the case and that his team simply has to learn how to defend setpieces to avoid situations like that from happening.

Mourinho said, as quoted by the Sun: “I believe that winning 3-0 in minute 80, we can play 50 more matches and it’s not going to happen again, so I don’t want to be sticking on this.

“No stories about ‘Spursy’ and this kind of thing. We just need to defend better from set pieces.”
