Here’s the quote, “You want, he doesn’t stay here. He goes to Real Madrid and stay on vacation?” Clearly, one would have thought, José is discussing Gareth Bale, but these words don’t really tally with the fact that Bale isn’t worth keeping, given his eye-watering cost.
The curious wording here is ‘stay’ on vacation, which implies the player is already not playing or, wasn’t playing for them. So it’s either Bale, or it’s Dele Alli, or it’s Reguilon, who has been a key player for Spurs.
The idea that Dele is wanted in Spain strikes me as remarkable, but hey ho.
What might shed some real light on matters is if we knew who Mourinho was talking to. The audio is from the camera that is filming for the club, as this is a clip from Spurs TV. So I’d plump for Steve Hitchen or Daniel Levy. Any decision is not within the gift of his coaching staff, so it must be someone further up the food chain.
I’d very much like to see Bale take his vacation somewhere else!
