Tottenham Hotspur are expected to sign a new goalkeeper in the coming months.
According to Alasdair Gold on Football London, the Premier League side are ‘more than likely’ to sign a new goalkeeper who could challenge Guglielmo Vicario for the starting spot. Tottenham are looking to add more competition for places, and it remains to be seen who they end up signing.
Fraser Forster will be out of contract in the summer along with Alfie Whiteman. Spurs are lacking in depth in the goalkeeping department and it is no surprise that they are plotting reinforcements. It remains to be seen whether they can bring in the right additions in the coming months.
Gold feels that they could look to make a move for the new goalkeeper at the end of the season, but they would not hesitate to sign one in January if the opportunity presents itself. However, signing a new player in January could be an issue when it comes to registering the player for the Europa League squad.
Unless players are leaving the club, Tottenham might not be allowed to register a new signing midway through the season. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
Vicario needs more competition
Vicario has been a quality player for Tottenham since joining the club, but the Italian can be inconsistent at times. He needs to improve his handling of set pieces as well. Having another reliable goalkeeper would be ideal. Competition for places would help both players improve.
Tottenham will be hoping to fight for major trophies, and they will need a deeper squad to do well across multiple competitions. They have done well to improve the squad in recent windows, and it will be interesting to see if they can plug the remaining gaps in their squad over the next few months.
