Micky van de Ven, Tottenham’s Dutch centre-back, signed from Wolfsburg in 2023, has been a standout performer under new manager Thomas Frank (who took over earlier this season). He’s established himself as a key defensive pillar, known for his pace, aerial prowess, and ball-playing ability.

However, his history of hamstring injuries has raised occasional concerns, especially with Tottenham’s packed schedule in the 2025/26 Premier League and cup campaigns.

Recent Performance Highlights

In Tottenham’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Everton on October 26, 2025, van de Ven was the match-winner, scoring twice with headers from corners in the first half—his fifth and sixth goals in just 14 appearances under Frank.

He’s contributed seven clearances and three interceptions in that game, while also helping secure a clean sheet.

Pundit Gary Neville recently praised him as “even more great” for Spurs, crediting his integration into Frank’s high-pressing system.

Potential Issues and Concerns

The primary “issues” surrounding van de Ven right now stem from injury worries and workload management, amplified by a recent post-match limp and his injury-prone past:

Post-Everton Limp:

After the win, van de Ven was spotted limping, sparking fan and media speculation about a possible recurrence of his hamstring problems (he missed significant time in October 2024 due to one). However, Frank quickly dismissed any serious concern, confirming it’s not a fitness issue and that van de Ven is ready for the upcoming Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle.

Heavy Workload:

With captain Cristian Romero sidelined by a muscular injury, van de Ven has started nearly every game, playing almost the full 90 minutes against West Ham last week (where he also scored). He’s only been rested once this season, in the Carabao Cup against Doncaster Rovers.

Frank has acknowledged the “relentless fixture churn” but expressed confidence in van de Ven’s readiness, noting his proactive gym work, a strong pre-season, and support from the medical team to build resilience.

No major team disruptions reported from these; in fact, Frank views van de Ven’s post-match interaction (a heated but constructive disagreement with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario over distribution) as a positive sign of the squad’s high standards.

Overall, while past injuries make fans cautious, van de Ven appears in peak form and is integral to Tottenham’s current five-game unbeaten run. Frank’s approach emphasises rotation where possible, but with Romero out, expect van de Ven to feature heavily in the next London derby against Chelsea.
