Micky van de Ven’s brilliant performance from left-back for Netherlands

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham players headed off for national duty, with several set to participate in the upcoming Euros.

Among them is Micky van de Ven, who has been representing the Netherlands.

The Dutch defender showcased his versatility by delivering an impressive performance from left-back in a 4-0 victory against Canada in an international friendly on Thursday.

Van de Ven played the full 90 minutes and demonstrated why he has been a standout player for Tottenham last season.

A highlight of his performance was an almost brilliant assist.

He executed a quick pass to Memphis Depay, overlapped on the left flank, received a through ball, and sprinted down the wing before delivering a beautiful cross into the box. Georginio Wijnaldum met the cross, but his shot was blocked by a defender.

Van de Ven’s match statistics highlight his contributions: he created one chance, completed 45 out of 52 passes, and won all three of his tackle attempts.

Additionally, he made two clearances, including one headed clearance, recorded one interception, and made one ball recovery. Impressively, he won five out of six ground duels and committed no fouls.

Tottenham signed the centre-half from Wolfsburg last summer for €40 million, and he has quickly exceeded expectations.

His performances have drawn praise from pundits and fans alike.

Van de Ven’s display against Canada not only underscores his defensive capabilities but also highlights his potential as an attacking threat from the back, making him an invaluable asset for both club and country.
