Micky van de Ven insists Tottenham Hotspur’s players are doing ‘everything’ to end the club’s long-running trophy drought.

Spurs are among the favourites for this year’s Europa League, with former boss Jose Mourinho naming them alongside Manchester United as his top two picks.

However, the Lilywhites may have to overcome bigger mental hurdles than physical ones to go all the way.

Afterall, Spurs are without a trophy since their 2008 League Cup success, losing three further League Cup finals and a Champions League final since then.

The pressure of that drought — comfortably the longest of any ‘big six’ club — hangs over the heads of manager Ange Postecoglou and his players.

But Van de Ven has promised fans he and his teammates are pulling out all the stops to finally bring some silverware to White Hart Lane.

“We’re going to do everything to win a trophy,” the Dutch defender bluntly declared to reporters at a press conference (via Football.London).

For Van de Ven, winning a trophy with Spurs would represent a major checkpoint in what has been a remarkable rise of a player who just three years ago, was playing in the Dutch second tier.

Postecoglou has paid tribute to his Dutch star, who is swiftly becoming one of the most important players for his team at both club and international level.

“With Micky, it’s fair to say he developed late but very quickly,” Postecoglou told reporters.

“Even at Volendam there was a period when they were a bit unsure.

“For us last year he was outstanding in his first year in the Premier League. He’s growing all the time, maturing. I think the more he plays with the national team it will give him more belief.”
