Tottenham celebrated a big win against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup earlier this week to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
Timo Werner scored the opener within 5 minutes with a brilliant finish and Pape Matar Sarr doubled the lead with a lovely goal from outside the box.
City got one back through Matheus Nunes right at the end of the first-half, but Spurs held on the their lead for the next 45 minutes to knock the reigning Premier League champions out of the League Cup.
However, the win came with some setbacks, especially the injury to star defender Micky van de Ven, who was forced off the pitch just 14 minutes into the game due to a hamstring injury.
The injury looked serious enough with the Dutchman coming off the pitch in tears, but the player has since shared some optimism with a message on his Instagram stating that he will be ‘back soon’.
Micky van de Ven injury: Expert shares expected return time
Physio Scout, a trusted source on injury updates and analysis on Twitter, has now provided insight into van de Ven’s hamstring injury.
According to the analyst, the injury likely stemmed from an intense sprint and deceleration, which could have worsened a pre-existing tightness in his hamstring.
Physioscout suggests that the recovery times vary significantly depending on the type and severity of a hamstring injury.
If it is merely a case of tightness, van de Ven could be back in action within a week. However, if scans reveal a Grade 1 strain, he might need two to four weeks of recovery, while a more serious Grade 2 strain could see him out for up to six weeks.
Though the scan results are still pending, Physio Scout’s assessment hints at a minor issue, largely because the 23-year-old displayed pre-match signs of tightness. The following detailed update was shared on X:
Micky van de Ven came off early with a hamstring injury in Spurs vs. Man City after a recovery challenge. He was seen in tears coming off.
Prior to the match, he was seen feeling his right hamstring a little, possibly indicating tightness that he played through.
In the screenshot provided, we can see that his right leg goes into extreme knee flexion, putting the hamstring (which could’ve been already tight), at an uncomfortable position.
There is a possibility he did his hamstring on the sprint/deceleration phase too. Physio was seen performing hamstring tests on him.
Possible Recovery Times:
If tightness: Less than a week
Grade 1: 2-4 weeks
Grade 2: 4-6 weeksTough to say without scans, but I’d say it’s less serious here. Ange stated that he felt something, could be further tightness or a minor/moderate strain.
The Dutch defender could be out for weeks
Ange Postecoglou has since then also provided an update, confirming that while the injury is not as serious as initially thought, he could be out until the next international break, which mean at least a month.
In van de Ven’s absence, Tottenham are set to rely on Romanian centre-back Radu Dragușin.
The former Genoa man has seen limited playing time since his move in January, due to the strong partnership of Cristian Romero and van de Ven. However, with the Dutch defender now out for at least a month, Dragusin has an opportunity to step up and perform at the back for Spurs.
