Tottenham may be facing a challenging period as doubts emerge over the future of their star midfielder, Dejan Kulusevski.
Former club scout Mick Brown has hinted that several elite European teams are monitoring Kulusevski’s situation closely, as Spurs endure a difficult season in the Premier League.
The Swedish international has been one of Tottenham’s standout performers, even as the team’s form has been poor. With six defeats in their last seven league games, Spurs currently sit in 15th place, just eight points clear of the relegation zone.
If their poor run continues and they miss out on European qualification next season, it could lead to several star players wanting an exit, including Kulusevski.
Mick Brown: Dejan Kulusevski will be open to a move away
Brown believes Tottenham would demand a ‘huge’ fee for the 24-year-old, but Kulusevski might be tempted by a move to a club consistently competing at the highest level.
His consistent contributions, despite Spurs’ difficulties, have made him an even more attractive prospect for potential buyers.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said:
“All players want to play at the top level.
“He’s consistently been their best player whenever I’ve seen them.
“Even while his team has been struggling, he’s one player who’s turned in some really impressive performances for them.
“What happens down the road in terms of his future, stranger things have happened.
“I think Tottenham have to see where they finish the season, it looks unlikely they’re going to qualify for Europe, and then assess what they can and can’t do.
“It would probably take a huge fee to convince them to sell Kulusevski.
“But and I think he’d be open to a move if one came up, and there isn’t any shortage of interest in him from some of the top clubs.”
Since joining Spurs on an 18-month loan from Juventus in January 2022, Kulusevski has been a pivotal figure in the squad. His immediate impact—five goals and eight assists in 18 league games—prompted Tottenham to make the deal permanent in June 2023, securing his services until 2028.
This season, Kulusevski has been one of the few bright spots for the North London club. The midfielder has tallied nine goals and eight assists in 35 appearances across all competitions. Beyond the raw numbers, his influence is evident in advanced metrics, where he ranks second in key passes (58), shot-creating actions (113), and progressive carries (104) in the Premier League.
His performances have recently earned him praise from his manager Ange Postecoglou, who hailed his performances as ‘outstanding‘.
As Spurs navigate this challenging campaign, retaining Kulusevski will be vital for Ange Postecoglou’s ambitions. However, with top clubs like AC Milan expressing interest and Tottenham facing the risk of missing European football, the coming months could see a twist in the talented midfielder’s career.
