Michail Antonio believes striker Spurs sold was even better than Luis Suarez

Debates around ranking the best centre-forwards in Premier League history are commonplace among fans and pundits alike.

Names like Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, and Thierry Henry often dominate these discussions, given their illustrious careers.

It does get tricky as you move down the ranking list, considering the multitude of great strikers who have graced the English top flight over the years.

West Ham’s veteran centre-forward, Michail Antonio, recently found himself confronted with a similar challenge.

The 34-year-old boasts over 100 goals in the English football league, spanning across the Premier League, Championship, and League One.

Participating in the TikTok challenge for JD Football, the Jamaica international made some intriguing choices while compiling his list.

In an unexpected move, Antonio ranked former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane above the renowned Luis Suarez in his tier list.

When presented with the option to rank the legendary Uruguayan goalscorer, Antonio placed him below Keane, positioning Suarez at the bottom of the list despite several available spots higher up.

He said:

“Robbie Keane, nine, Luis Suarez, Suarez, he was decent but he’s going to have to go at 10 for me.”

Indeed, ranking Suarez so low seems perplexing given his remarkable accolades. In the 2013-14 season, he was not only named Premier League Player of the Season but also clinched the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer, outshining all other strikers in both the Premier League and across Europe. He later repeated this feat with Barcelona.

In his time at Liverpool, he scored 82 goals and assisted 41 in 133 appearances across all competitions.  On the other hand, Robbie Keane was also an exceptional player, having an impressive record of 122 goals and 32 assists in his 306 appearances for Spurs.

Keane enjoyed two spells at Tottenham. He joined the club from Leeds United in 2002, and spent 6 years at the club before being sold to Liverpool in 2008.

However, he was sold back to Tottenham in February 2009. He spent his second loan mostly out on loan to various clubs before eventually being sold to Los Angeles in 2011

But the former Irish international’s achievements pale in comparison to Suarez’s, who is considered one of the best strikers of all time.
