“Maybe it’s a chance to play him now.” Redknapp makes a case for Tottenham fringe player

Harry Redknapp says Carlos Vinicius has the quality to step up in the absence of Harry Kane and should be given the chance to play now.

Spur’s worse nightmare came to pass when they lost Harry Kane to injury in their match against Liverpool.

The striker will be out for at least three weeks, and they will need to keep picking up points to remain in the top-four race.

In the summer, they landed Vinicius on loan from Benfica to cover for this situation.

The Brazilian had outscored other strikers in Portugal last season, and Spurs even agreed to a potential transfer fee to keep him permanently.

He hasn’t started any Premier League game yet, but he has impressed in the Europa League and other Cup competitions.

Redknapp says he has heard good things about the striker and thinks this is the time for him to be given his chances in the Premier League.

“They tell me the Brazilian boy is a fantastic player, the centre forward, people at the club,” Redknapp told Stadium Astro.

“He was the leading scoring in Portugal last year and people tell me he’s a top, top player. Maybe it’s a chance to play him now.”
