“Massive Poch fan, now a big Jose supporter” Mourinho starting to win the Tottenham fans over

By Bruce Grove -

It is safe to say that Jose Mourinho was not the most popular choice to replace Mauricio Pochettino as the Tottenham manager last year when the Argentine got fired.

The “experienced one” did turn up at Hotspur Way with a lot of baggage and to some extent, a damaged reputation.

His style of football was not universally welcomed, especially when injuries mounted and he was forced into negative football just to avoid a loss.

However, an end of season run that saw the club qualify for the Europa League, beat Arsenal and finish above them in the standings and a brilliant start to this campaign has seen a good few Tottenham fans change their opinion of the 57-year-old.

The BBC has stuck up a Tweet asking if Jose has managed to win the Spurs fans over and weeding out the bitter rival fans you get the impression that more and more fans have been won over by the former Man Utd boss.

Poch is a manager who shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as José. Simple.

Agreed on all fronts and the points you made do need echoing before Poch is blamed for Brexit, the slave trade and the voting fraud in America along with destroying Spurs! I simply disagree with our tactics, yet this is seen as heretic behaviour. I mean, how dare any Spurs fan want to play like Klopp’s Liverpool tonight or how the played against Chelsea. Even without VVD, Trent and Salah they handed Rodgers’ backside to him and they gave Frank a chastening lesson in how to play. I can imagine we will beat Leicester and possibly Chelsea, but we will play like we did yesterday. I will be happy at the results but not how I think Spurs should play. The new mantra is that we tried under Harry and Poch to play attacking football, but because it didn’t work we have to do something completely different. Absolute tosh, Levy alone is responsible for not giving Harry or Poch the players to succeed. Even Jose couldn’t do it with the squad he inherited. A great start to the first quarter, no doubt. Top 4 here we come with a trophy guaranteed.

Totally understand & agree. But to people being attacked for simply write what they believe. Told what to think and what to say, why?

Totally backed him THEN but NOW, refuse to live in the past!
I am/have NOT turned against Mauricio nor turning him into a villain nor denigrating his memory & am extremely grateful for all he achieved but he is no longer manager, THFC have moved on, José is manager now, that’s how it is!

Sadly it’s probably only the ‘F*ck Poch’ & ‘I don’t want to be entertained’ f*ckwits that never backed him.

Great post and without sounding arrogant, you echo many of the things I wrote below. It’s peculiar to me how many fans on this forum have got it in for Poch. If anyone has read Andros Townsend’s comments about what a shambles Spurs were in before he took over and how he turned it round, they should be grateful, particularly as it comes from somebody Poch sold. As I have written before, I have never Liked Enic or Levy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t support my club. Poch is gone, but let’s be thankful he gave Spurs fans their self respect back rather than needlessly denigrating his memory. I hope we win trophies under Mourinho but I am not enjoying the football. In the eyes of some, that makes me a f*ckwit but I can live with that.

Apparently football is about winning. I have news for you if you believe that. The professional game might be, but supporting isn’t. If it were no one would support Stockport, Barnsley or Spurs for that matter. 2 League cups in 29 years is testament to that. All fans want their team to win (whether a corner, a game or a trophy) but from where I look only Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and City have done this consistently since the 90s. We have had plenty of near misses and glorious failures, but I don’t blame Redschapps or Poch, I blame Levy. Those winning teams had chairmen who backed the team not a stadium. Nevermind Jose haters, the propaganda of turning Poch into a villain sickens me. The man was given the 6th biggest wage bill and not given a penny for 3 transfer windows yet he worked miracles. Levy solely wanted Ch Lg and Poch delivered. Pity he wasn’t trusted like Hassenhutl at Southampton.
Now, Jose has every right to win games as he pleases, after all numpty brains Levy put him in charge. But, I remember George Graham boring me to death and winning a League Cup. Trophy ticked off but we didn’t kick on and become perennial winners. I hope this is different, but Jose only hangs around for 3 years and I worry about who will be next up. Maybe, Roy Hodgson! I support Spurs, will back every manager, but I have the right to make comment on how we play. All those winning teams played quality football because they had quality throughout their teams. Look at he European teams that win and qualify for the Ch Lg. All attack minded teams.
I know Jose does it differently, but I don’t have to like it. Real Madrid, Chelsea and Man Utd fans soon got fed up and Jose won trophies galore with them. But that is football. We have been starved of trophies, but if we won 3 Leagues, an FA Cup and a Ch Lg would we get fed up defending like sixties Inter Milan? And by he way, Poch won ugly plenty of times. Against the richer teams I know the tactics that Jose plays is spot on, but my gripe is his reluctance to play any other way against the 9/10 men behind the ball teams. It actually cost us 2 points v Newcastle because we sat back and got sucker punched by VAR Utd, and against West Ham, the lack of quality cost us (Aurier, Sissoko, Winks).
Like I wrote, I am all in for Spurs at the moment. I have seen what Jose is creating, he just better win something!

How absurd is the idea that you cannot play attractive football and win trophies? Did Man City play entertaining football under Guardiola when they won the PL? Did Barcelona and Real Madrid play good football the last ten years? What about the Ajax team who invented total football in the 70s and won three European Cups? I respect Jose for his previous achievements and I hope we win some silverware under him but I cannot get excited when the pundits drool how many tackles Kane is making or defensive headers. One can back Jose but not enjoy the football he plays. I don’t believe either that he has had some Damascene conversion and turned into some cuddly warm human being.

Sadly it’s probably only the ‘bring back Poch’ & ‘I want to be entertained’ f*ckwits that will never back José.
