One of the many thorny issues that divides the Tottenham fan base these days is Mauricio Pochettino’s worth as a coach.
Sure, we all accept that, given the frequently meagre resources at his disposal, within certain parameters, he’s worked miracles.
However, one cannot have it both ways here. The gaffer is also paid an absolute fortune to effectively do as he is told, and stick firmly to the company line.
Anyone confused about that might recall the need to be brave line that had fans in raptures a few seasons ago.
That was a false dawn of epic proportions. The Argie was talking about securing market rate wages for Harry Kane. Jeez, he may as well have been referring to a request he put in for a new net bag for the ballboys!
Garth Crooks is a winner – and he did his winning at Tottenham. Therefore, nobody needs to question his ability to speak with authority and authenticity about Tottenham and winning.

This BBC studio debate will have touched a nerve with many Spurs fans, who have been propagating the myth that Pochettino is the best coach we’ve ever had.

“Pochettino has got to be quite clear to his players and ask ‘who here wants to win? If you don’t, go,’ he said on BBC’s Football Focus show.
“We are not even a third through the season. You go to Brighton and lose 3-0 with those players? It’s a joke.
“Pochettino hasn’t won anything, and he [Martin Keown] says he’s an outstanding manager! On what basis?
“He has thrown the League Cup and FA Cup away in years when he’s gone for top four. I don’t care who we have as long as win trophies.”
Poch has won nothing and he has junked cups in order to bring more cash into ENIC’s gold reserve.
