Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Christian Romero has heaped praise on his teammate Micky van de Ven.
The 22-year-old signed for the North London club from Wolfsburg at the start of the season and he has already established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League. His performances have helped the Londoners tighten up at the back.
However, Romero believes that Van de Ven does not get the due credit. The Argentine international feels that Van de Ven is quite underrated because of the lack of marketing and hype around him.
Romero further added that the Dutchman is one of the best defenders in the country.
He told The Sun: “In this moment, Micky is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League. But marketing plays a big part in how people see you here — that’s why he is not spoken about enough.
“He doesn’t get any publicity and is not built up at all. But he’s doing so well and we hope that he can continue — I am so happy for him. He’s young, hungry and wants to get to the next level. He has a great career ahead.”
There is no doubt that the former Bundesliga defender has established himself as an indispensable asset for Tottenham and he is only going to improve with coaching and experience. He has all the tools to develop into a top class player in the coming seasons.
Apart from his qualities as a defender, his recovery pace has been invaluable for Tottenham, especially with their current style of play. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou prefers a free-flowing attacking style of football and they need defenders with impressive recovery pace in their high line.
Van de Ven is one of the quickest players in the league and he seems tailor-made for the Australian’s system.
Tottenham fans will be hoping for more of the same from their summer signing in the months ahead. Spurs will be hoping to secure Champions League qualification and Van de Ven will certainly play a key role in their quest for a top four finish.
