Manager urged to sell Kane and Son if he takes over at Tottenham

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany.

The 37-year-old is currently managing Burnley and he has helped the Clarets secure promotion to the Premier League.

The Belgian manager’s exploits at the Championship club have attracted a lot of praise in recent months. Apart from getting them promoted to the top flight, the 37-year-old has transformed the way they play.

Burnley’s high-intensity attacking football in the Championship has impressed one and all and Kompany has certainly proven that he is ready to manage in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy can convince the Belgian to leave the Clarets and move to the north London club at the end of the season.

Tottenham are searching for a quality long-term replacement for Antonio Conte.

Meanwhile, Belgium football analyst Filip Joos has now offered some advice to the 37-year-old if he takes over at Tottenham.

Joos believes that Kompany should look to get rid of key players Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min if he takes over at Tottenham. He has urged the 37-year-old to cash in on the two players and rebuild the Tottenham squad.

He said on a YouTube channel: “Kompany to Tottenham? Go! And even more: he has to let Kane and Son go and start all over again. That squad is so deep right now.

“He shouldn’t go to Chelsea where he will end up in a machine. There are 98 players walking around and you have to do it with that. Chelsea have also won trophies in recent years. Kompany is now bigger than Tottenham.

“If I’m Tottenham and you see Arteta’s work at Arsenal… He’s also from Guardiola’s school, just like Kompany. Doesn’t he have an edge over the rest? We would also understand if he left Burnley for Tottenham.”

Tottenham have a number of weaknesses in their squad but they do not have the financial resources to spend heavily. Selling two key players like Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min could give them a sizeable transfer kitty to work with.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are prepared to cash in on the two fan favourites and revamp the squad during the summer transfer window.
