Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon joined Atletico Madrid on loan in order to get his career back on track but things have not gone according to plan for the former Real Madrid player.
Reguilon has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Diego Simeone and the Argentine manager is thought to be unhappy with his performances as per Marca (h/t SportWitness).
The Spaniard is yet to start a single game for Atletico Madrid during his loan spell and his defensive vulnerabilities have forced Simeone to keep him on the fringes of the first team.
Reguilon is likely to come back to Tottenham at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether Spurs are prepared to cash in on him permanently.
It Is highly unlikely that Antonio Conte will bank on the Spaniard next season and he’s unlikely to get regular game time at the Premier League club.
Reguilon needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and a permanent exit from the Premier League would be ideal for him. The defender was highly impressive during his time at Sevilla and he will be hoping to regain that form and sharpness next season.
Spurs have been using Ivan Perisic and Ryan Sessegnon as their left-sided wing-back this season and Reguilon will be the third choice at Spurs if he decides to stay at the London club next season.
There is no doubt that he is a quality player, but the Spaniard is clearly going through a rough patch and he needs a fresh start.
