Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon is reportedly on the verge of a move to Barcelona, with the Spanish club advancing toward finalising the transfer.

According to Sport, relayed by TEAMtalk, Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, has approved the signing, although the deal has sparked internal debate at the club.

While Flick had given the green light to bring Reguilon to Camp Nou, Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, remains unconvinced.

Despite his reservations, Deco may ultimately have to yield to Flick’s preference, moving the transfer closer to completion.

Reguilon joined Tottenham from Real Madrid in 2020 with a five-year contract and a £27.5 million buy-back clause, but his tenure has been plagued by injuries and inconsistent form. Loan spells at Manchester United and Brentford further disrupted his ability to secure a place in North London.

With Ange Postecoglou deciding that Reguilon does not fit into his plans for the upcoming season, Tottenham are prepared to let the left-back leave, as he enters the final year of his contract. A switch to Barcelona would offer Reguilon a fresh start in La Liga, while also providing Tottenham with funds to strengthen their squad under Postecoglou’s guidance.

For Tottenham, Reguilon’s departure would mark a significant step in reshaping the team as they aim for a successful campaign.
