Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the central midfielder has been excluded from the squad for this weekend’s match against Manchester City.

Valued at £36 million, Gallagher has been on Spurs’ radar since last summer.

The England international was recently engaged in discussions with Atletico Madrid over a potential transfer, but negotiations between the two clubs hit a stumbling block, prompting Gallagher’s return to London after spending several days in Madrid.

Maresca disclosed that Gallagher is currently training separately from the rest of the team while undergoing medical assessments.

The manager also noted that the 24-year-old is actively working with the club to resolve his situation, with full support from Chelsea.

As reported by BBC Sport, the new Chelsea manager said:

“Conor is back and training a bit apart.

“He is doing some medical tests and training, he won’t be involved in this game.

“You know better than me that he is trying to find a solution with the club and we will see what happens.

“Hopefully Conor’s situation finishes with the player, the club and all the people happy.”

This situation presents Tottenham with a potential opportunity to make a move for Gallagher if his transfer to Atletico Madrid falls through.

The Lilywhites have long admired Gallagher’s talent, and his potential availability could lead them to place a bid.

Bringing Gallagher to Spurs would significantly enhance their midfield, providing not only technical skill but also much-needed leadership in the central areas.

With the transfer window still open, the club is carefully monitoring developments, poised to act swiftly if the chance to secure Gallagher arises.

Gallagher’s exit from Chelsea appears increasingly likely, and Tottenham could find themselves in an advantageous position to strengthen their squad with his addition for the upcoming season.
